Richard H. Wender
International tax, corporate and estate attorney.
Practice
Richard — "Rick" to his clients — has been engaged in the practice of law for nearly forty years. He serves as the firm's senior tax attorney, devising tax strategies, advising on the tax implications of domestic and international corporate transactions, handling tax defense matters, and designing wealth transfer arrangements by gift, trust, or bequest.
Beyond tax, Rick has for more than three decades developed deep expertise across business law — from general counsel work to mergers and acquisitions, buy/sell agreements, licensing, financing, and the full range of manufacturing and distribution contracts. He is also an expert on trusts and estates, and his practice extends to real estate matters including sales, leasing, and financing on behalf of buyers, sellers, landlords, tenants, lenders, and brokers.
Background
Rick began his legal career at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, where he worked in the New York Office's Division of Enforcement first as a trial attorney and later as a Branch Chief responsible for the enforcement efforts of a team of trial attorneys. While at the SEC, he developed numerous cases from investigation through trial and appeal — several of which ultimately resulted in criminal prosecutions as well as civil actions.
In 1990, Rick earned his LL.M. in Taxation from NYU and, from 1990 to 1994, served as an Adjunct Tax Professor at Baruch College's graduate business school, teaching federal tax to candidates for the Master of Accountancy degree.
Outside Interests
When he is not advising clients, Rick enjoys pottery, skiing, and hiking.
